If summer has to end, let it end with SummerFest. This year’s family event is set for August 31 at Rye Recreation Park. The fun begins at noon and includes: bean bag toss, water balloon challenge, fish pond, peanut scramble, potato-sack races, pie-eating contest, pillow fight and tug-of-war.

As the photoperiod declines, birds are cued to begin their long treks southward.  Catch a glimpse of some of these birds as they stop by Read Sanctuary Saturday, September 13, 8 a.m. to fuel up for the arduous journey.
