Muslim Melee Leads to 15 Arrests at Playland
What was meant to be a celebration quickly transformed into a fracas, as 15 Muslim park-goers were arrested August 29 at Playland after tempers flared when several women were denied access to rides because they would not remove their hijabs.
Dr. Shine to Retire at End of School Year
Ed Shine has been working for a long time. The 68-year-old has spent 46 years as an educator – including the last 15 as Rye City Schools’ Superintendent – and, in his youth, was employed as a newspaper delivery boy, grocery bagger, and pharmacy assistant.

A Warm Welcome to Rye’s New Assistant Principals
The Rye City School District is pleased to announce the recent appointments of two Assistant Principals. Ellen McDonnell, previously Rye High School Math Department Chair, has taken on the role of Assistant Principal with a focus on grade 6-12 mathematics. Robert McKiernan joins the District as Assistant Principal for Guidance and Student Support Services at Rye High, a position formerly held by Patricia Taylor, the new Principal.
Rye Neck: New, Improved, and a Fond Farewell
This year, Rye Neck worked on improving the curriculum in a number of areas, including the ongoing library project. Over the summer the tennis courts on the High School campus were repaired, much to the excitement of Rye Neck students and community members.
School of the Holy Child: Campus Improvements and More
Over the summer, Holy Child completed a full-scale locker renovation project. Each student, in both the Upper and Middle schools, will have a new locker; with fifth- and sixth- grade students having cubbies in their respective classrooms.
