Here We Go Again

Rye has been hit with record rains since Irene stormed through town two weekends ago. Roads have buckled, manhole covers have turned into fountains, ponds have sprouted up where they didn’t exist before, and the RHS football field is totally underwater again. Early Thursday morning, Indian Village and Wappanocca Avenue residents were awakened by a Reverse 911 call or a neighbor knocking on their door telling them to move their cars off the street and to prepare for the water to come over Blind Brook again.

Irene Sweeps Through Greenhaven

IMG 8590thumbIn the wee hours of August 27, while Irene barreled through Rye, it wreaked havoc in Greenhaven. Craig Maggio, 15, who visits the dock daily with his father during the summer months, couldn’t resist taking a peak at 10:30 that morning. “We were knee-deep in water and I could see the power of the waves and how fierce they were,” he said. “I knew Mother Nature was about to destroy the beach.”
