Local Triathletes Finish Among the Elite at 26th JWT

rtrithumbIt’s only fitting that Rye’s hometown heroes succeeded in the event held in their own backyard September 25. Once again, Shelly Wolfson headlined the local cast at the Jarden Westchester Triathlon, finishing first among non-professional females with a time of 2:17:20. The 43-year-old edged fellow resident Noga Ruttenberg by just over a minute.

Race to the Finish

ktrithumbThey came with their bikes, shoes, water bottles, towels, and goggles. They were excited, ready to face a challenge. In all, 265 kids ages 7 to 14 came, not only from Rye, but from Stamford, Lagrangeville, Fairfield, White Plains, Bronxville, and various towns outside Westchester County. They came to the Jarden Westchester Kids’ Triathlon for one reason: to win.

Serenity Is the Star of the Show

flothumbWoven into the fabric of the Little Garden Club’s “Namaste” show were floral and plant arrangements that intrigued and beguiled hundreds of visitors. Wainwright House was the perfect backdrop for the two-day GCA exhibit. The rare and quiet beauty of arrangements, many suspended from the ceiling, photographs, and table displays was an inspiration to gardeners and creators at all levels.

Resident in the News: Darlene Jeris, New Leader of POTS

bo-potstumbPOTS (Part of the Solution), the Bronx-based organization that has had the longtime support of Resurrection Church, recently welcomed a new executive director. Rye resident Darlene Jeris took over for Sr. Mary Alice Hannan, who retired. She is the first lay leader at POTS, which was founded in 1982 by Rev. Ned Murphy, Sr. Jane Iannucelli, and Tim Boon.
