Rye’s Tamara Mitchell, who has long been involved in the struggle against domestic violence and elder abuse, was honored last week by The Pace Women’s Justice Center. At the organization’s annual dinner at Abigail Kirsch at Tappan Hill in Tarrytown, they commemorated “Twenty Years of Justice for Women”.
Touring a Garden That’s Aging in Place Well
SPRYE, Rye’s newly-formed aging in place organization, held its first members’ event, a guided tour of the Donald Kendall Sculpture Gardens at PepsiCo’s headquarters in Purchase, followed by lunch at the nearby Full Moon Trattoria.
A Shared Experience
Community health and wellness is at the top of the Rye YMCA’s priority list. When the organization received a grant, through YUSA, from the Centers for Disease Control, which identifies complete streets in its 24-point strategic plan for healthier communities, they knew the perfect recipient — the City of Rye. Through its Shared Roadways Initiative, the City had a shovel-ready project on a portion of Forest Avenue.
Order Early and Often
The beautiful hanging baskets that adorn Purchase Street during the warmer months of the year are the work of the Ceres Garden Club. To help pay for that effort, they hold just one fundraiser, a wreath sale, every year before the holidays at the Square House.
A Bevy of Blue
Miriam’s Attic, the fine resale shop at The Osborn, is overflowing with wonderful gift items for the upcoming holidays — furniture, china, jewelry, glassware, scarves, gloves, pocketbooks, and art, among them. The shop is open Tuesdays year-round, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. All proceeds benefit the Charity Care Program.
