The Westchester Chamber Music Society, celebrating its 61st season, is featuring some of the most celebrated ensembles, including The Tokyo String Quartet November 6. Concerts are held Sunday evenings at 8 p.m. at Congregation Emanu-El of Westchester on Westchester Avenue in Rye.
There has been more than a fall flurry as far as home sales are concerned. In the last month alone, 16 homes have sold in Rye and Rye P.O. “Buyers, as well as sellers, are trying to take advantage of low interest rates during the final stretch before the holiday season kicks in,” said Coldwell Banker Rye agent Debbie Strati-Padawer.
The documentary begins innocently enough with a plastic bag floating along a street, like a tiny cloud buffeted by the wind. A cute musical soundtrack plays in the background. But within a few minutes, viewers of “Bag It” learn how big a threat the millions of plastic bags tossed on streets, in streams and rivers, and filling up landfills, poses to life as we know it.
Picture the small hamlet of Rye in the early 1900s. Running down to Home Depot was totally out of the question. Hopping into your Model “A” Ford wasn’t likely either, for the era of the automobile was just beginning, with a mere 30 “new-fangled” cars registered in Rye by 1906.
Everybody looks forward to getting mail, but in the Greenhaven neighborhood everybody also looked forward to seeing the man who carried it. Like a breath of fresh air, Lenny Braccio delivered our mail with a warm smile, rain or shine, nor’easter or flood. On foot, he always had time for a pleasant exchange. In his truck, he never failed to acknowledge passersby with a friendly wave.
