I am trying to make sense out of a sad situation. I have been a close friend for over 25 years of a woman whose husband died after a long illness. We raised our children in the same neighborhood, went to church together, and she and her husband often traveled with my husband and me.

numithumbWhen Nuriel Abramov was working at a hair salon in White Plains, there was a position opening for a stylist. He interviewed Gabriel Abrams, who was hired. It wasn’t long before the two Russian émigrés realized they had the same dream — opening their own salon.

vegathumbThe Rye Free Reading Room had a full house February 12, after its annual meeting. The featured attraction was singer/songwriter Suzanne Vega. CBS newscaster and library trustee Anthony Mason engaged her in conversation about her life in music, after which she delighted the audience by performing two of her soulful works. She also signed a number of copies of her poetic collection of writings, “The Passionate Eye”.

osbornthumbThe Osborn Retirement Community, Rye City Lions Club, and Rye Rotary Club would like to thank everyone who donated coats for the 2012 Winter Coat Drive to benefit homeless men and women. All of the coats are distributed to those in need at the Open Arms Men’s Shelter and Samaritan House Women’s Shelter in White Plains.
