The Rye Free Reading Room has begun the process for a strategic plan for 2013-18.
If you were out of town this summer, you might have been surprised to see a new and distinctive pavement marking along Forest Avenue upon your return. They’re called sharrows (short for “shared-lane marking arrow”).
Yellow is the color of the day, from Potentilla, a small shrub, to Black-eyed Susan, a tall native perennial, to coreopsis, a low-growing and profuse bloomer. These plants are tough and pretty.
A Scarsdale running back got away from four Rye High defenders during a scrimmage at home last Saturday. The Garnets hosted pre-season practice games against the Raiders and Hopkins of New Haven. The Garnets open their regular football season this Saturday at Pearl River.
The Rye High School crew team will hold its 4th annual Erg-a-thon Saturday, September 22 in the Rye Middle School parking lot from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Rowers will complete thousands of meters on the erg’s in exchange for pledges to support the team’s travel to regattas. There’s also an opportunity to try an erg and learn about rowing for anyone interested.
As of September 4, 48 states have reported West Nile virus infections in people, birds, or mosquitoes. A total of 1,993 cases of West Nile virus disease in people, including 87 deaths, have been reported to CDC.
