shells-thThose who will soon be sailing or paddling in the waters of Milton Harbor, past the coast of the Marshlands and on toward Hen Island, will again see, especially at low tide, the squirting clams and oyster beds that once were a source of food and a foundation of the early economy of Rye and the adjoining Sound Shore.

The Health Column That Almost Never Was

health-thIt seems exotic to be a roving columnist for our excellent little local paper, but indeed I am. I write from my native Scotland having had a reminder from my editor, as always polite and encouraging, that she’d love an article for the next issue. (The deadline was also politely and encouragingly emphasized!)

School Budget Vote and Board Candidate Election May 19

schoolboardNext Tuesday, Rye voters will see a ballot with just three Board of Education candidates for the three open seats: incumbents Nancy Pasquale and Chris Repetto are seeking second terms and Kelly Smith-Powers, a Loudon Woods parent with a first grader at Midland and twins heading for kindergarten in September, is running for the first time.

Development in Rye: Striking a Healthy Balance

A1-newsthLately, there has been an abundance of “water cooler” discussion among Rye residents about the increased amount of development in our town.   Driving around Rye, you cannot help but notice the excavators, backhoes, and cement trucks parked on properties where someone’s home once stood.
