History and quilting team up in the national tour of “And Still We Rise: Race, Culture and Visual Conversations,” an unusual exhibition on view now at the Bruce Museum in Greenwich. It tells the story of almost 400 years of African-American history through the medium of story quilts.

One year ago, Rye High’s Thomas Mackey missed meeting the standard to compete in the New York State Swimming Championships by .07 second. The bitter taste of that near-miss drove him to redouble his efforts in the pool as well as his workouts on dry land over the ensuing 12 months.
