Senator Kirsten Gillibrand Endorses Eliot Engel for Congress
NEW YORK – Citing his sterling record on protecting women’s rights, his strong opposition to the worst abuses of the Trump Administration, and “unparalleled leadership in securing vital resources for New Yorkers during this tragic pandemic,” New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand has endorsed Congressman Eliot Engel for re-election
Senator Gillibrand and Congressman Engel have often worked closely together to respond to crisis, and the COVID-19 pandemic is no exception. “Eliot has always been one of the most effective advocates in Congress for his constituents and all New Yorkers. As a senior member of House leadership, Congressman Engel is often the tip of the spear in demanding Federal resources for our state, especially in areas so hard hit by this terrible virus,” said Senator Gillibrand. “He’s also been a tremendous champion for women’s reproductive health, which right now with the current administration is under constant attack. Whether it be standing together to help women owned small-businesses in New Rochelle, or championing our shared progressive values in Washington, Eliot is always there with me, fighting. We need to keep Eliot Engel where he is: fighting for us in Congress. I’m proud to call him my legislative partner and friend.”
Senator Gillibrand noted that Congressman Engel has a 100% Planned Parenthood voting record, is a member of the House Pro-Choice Caucus, and has been endorsed by NARAL Pro Choice America, National Organization of Women PAC, and ProChoice Voter.
“Kirsten’s endorsement means everything to me- she is such a fighter for the rights of women, for equal justice, and for New York,” said Congressman Engel. “Working with Senator Gillibrand on the other side of the Capitol, hopefully in the majority next year, I know we can bring this great country back from the Trump brink and help New York recover.”
Congressman Eliot Engel (D-NY) is seeking re-election in the 16th District of New York, including the north Bronx and southern Westchester. The son of an ironworker and a homemaker, born in the Bronx and raised in public housing, Rep. Engel is a major progressive Democratic leader who chairs the Foreign Affairs Committee and has fought for the rights of women, organized labor, immigrants, our minority communities, and LGBTQ Americans for three decades.
