A 26-year-old man took his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot over the weekend on Florence Avenue, authorities confirmed Tuesday.
Rye police found the man in critical condition in a home on Florence Avenue at around 8:35 p.m. on Saturday, after responding to reports of a gunshot. Police did not disclose the identity of the victim.
EMS transported him to White Plains Hospital but he died before reaching the hospital.
The Westchester County Medical Examiner confirmed that the fatal gunshot was self-inflicted, ruling the death a suicide. The medical examiner declined to comment further on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Rye City School District began offering counselor support for students on Monday and also set aside a quiet space on campus for students, faculty, and staff who needed time to process the tragedy.
Public Safety Commissioner Michael Kopy declined to comment when reached by The Record on Monday.
