In searching for savvy help in home decorating, I knew whom to call: Peter J. Sinnott IV at Home Works, 509 North Main Street in Port Chester. Sinnott designs with panache, warmth, and common sense — a rare combination in the world of home decorating. Evolving from a business that mostly did window treatments and upholstery, the Home Works team can now help you with fabric, lighting, furniture, and accessories, working with custom pieces, case goods, and antiques.
I like the fact that he represents lines of all price points. His design ethos is simply, “A little Prada and a little GAP can bring about a spectacular home!”
The large, long family room pictured above serves a multitude of functions. Peter created seating for good viewing of the large-screen TV in the center of built-ins. Two 86-inch sofas flank a 106-inch sofa, leaving a large space for a coffee table. He designed and built a 60-inch square ottoman that anchored the room.
Behind the sofa is a small desk for doing homework, and in the corner is a reading nook. All of the fabrics used are indoor/outdoor, faux leather, or heavy-duty cottons.
Magically, he’s created a room — with several seating areas — for a family of four, so they all can comfortably enjoy the space.
The library, at right, in the same house, also serves multiple purposes. The sitting area faces a large-screen TV for the adults to watch their shows while the childrenenjoy movies in the larger family room. A small area is designed for reading, and the desk area works as a home office for the lady of the house. All of the public rooms on the first floor flow with similar color schemes.
Because of his building and construction background, Peter has a great sense of scale and proportion, which translates well in the complete design of a home or room, regardless of the size.
One pillow, one room, or an entire house, Home Works can help.
