Wellness takes on a new meaning at CLAY, the 25,000-square-foot health club and spa, which opened September 3 at 11 Riverdale Avenue in Port Chester, across from Carvel, on the Greenwich border. An urban-type country club, based on its Manhattan roots, CLAY helps members design a personalized lifestyle program based on an integrative approach to health and wellness.
Upon arrival, you needn’t worry about parking. Leave that to the valet and nobody will get wet from rain or snow since the entrance to the indoor lot is protected. There are many details like this that make CLAY special, such as the women’s locker room, which features a room exclusively for mothers. Then there’s the double-sided fireplace, members’ lounge and outdoor deck for relaxing, cheerful childcare room, and sky-lit café.
But on to fitness. CLAY offers a Pilates studio with Reformers, Towers, Chair and Cadillac equipment, spinning studio with the latest Keiser bikes, group exercise center, and yoga studio. In the fitness area is a wealth of cutting-edge equipment, including high-tech Life Fitness treadmills that enable runners to set digital programs to race against others in marathons around the world.
And advanced technology doesn’t stop there. A sports lab, using the same methodology designed for NASA, can scientifically analyze a golfer’s swing or a triathlete’s movement patterns to pinpoint weaknesses.
In partnership with Maison Privé, the Clay café serves a full menu of smoothies, breakfasts, salads, and small plates. There are two nutrition coaches who can arrange blood testing to examine micronutrient levels to help customize eating plans.
All these elements are designed to work together, along with spa services, according to Karen Mason, Director of Operations. The CLAY philosophy is that your body is your temple and the integration of the various disciplines provides the maximum results. So, the in-house golf pro can work on a member’s swing, while personal trainers can design targeted strength and conditioning programs to improve performance, and CLAY chefs can provide meals based on a nutritional plan. Coordinating it all is a fitness concierge.
CLAY has a facility in the city on West 14th Street. The Port Chester location has been in the works for the past four years. There’s a capped membership to prevent overcrowding. Membership includes use of the club and fitness classes. Non-members can book spa services and use the facility while they’re there.
