A Roar of Applause for Isobel Perry
The Rye City Lions Club will honor Isobel Perry with the James A. and Marian M. Shea Community Service Award on Friday, November 2 at Apawamis Club. The Award was established in 2003 to recognize an individual(s) who lives or works in the Rye community and has contributed to enhancing the lives of its citizens through outstanding volunteerism.
Perry has been a tireless advocate for those in need and without a voice, as evidenced by her many years of service in the areas of health care, geriatric care, affordable housing, human rights, family services, equal opportunity, and afterschool programs. Her years of commitment to the community include serving on the Rye Town Council of Community Services, Rye Youth Council, City of Rye Human Rights Commission, City of Rye Affordable Housing Task Force, Staying Put in Rye and Environs (SPRYE), Human Development Services of Westchester (HDSW), and the Advisory Board of the Open Door Family Health Center.
She is a certified social worker whose professional background includes fifteen years at the Rye Psychiatric Hospital Center in the positions of Director of Social Services, Director of Volunteers, and Director of Community Relations.
In 2014, Perry was honored by Hope House/HDSW for her long-term commitment to the agency and to improving the lives of all people in the greater community. Andrea Kocsis, HDSW Executive Director at the time, described Isobel as “… our conscience, our advocate, our colleague, our model, our friend.”
