After going undefeated in the regular season, the Rye Women’s A team captured the Westchester County Tennis League Championships June 23.
The team, captained by Hitomi Matsuo and Masako White, consists of Rye players rated 4.0 to 4.5. This season’s league, which began in April, drew nine teams from all over Westchester competing in best-of-five doubles matches.
After winning all their matches, Rye earned the No. 1 seed in the playoffs among the top four teams, which included New Castle, Scarsdale 1, and Lewisboro.
In the finals against New Castle, played on the Rye Recreation courts, Rye clinched the championship title by winning all five matches.
“We are proud to have won the title,” said White. “It’s a reflection of the strong and dedicated Rye team members.” Player Maureen Fearon credited White and Matsuo for being such great captains and for investing so much time and effort into the team.
