Twenty-one undergraduate and graduate school students received academic achievement awards from the Sterling Park Residents Association at a presentation at The Osborn this month. Each of the students is the child or grandchild of an employee of the senior facility.
The awards, now in their 13th year, are from a fund created by residents to which they contribute voluntarily and then allocate, based upon on student applications. To be considered, a student must be continuing in an educational program after high school, which may be a college, university or trade school. This year, ten new students received the Academic Achievement Award; 11 were repeat recipients.
The winners represent varied educational paths, including medicine, criminal justice, physical therapy, and computer science. This year’s winners are: Simone Barnes (Port Chester), George Boateng (Bronx), Shakur Brown (Bronx), Dayna Cameron (White Plains), Nicole Ferrara (Harrison), Jasmine Gayle (Bronx), Kristian Killeen (Rye Brook), John Vize (Harrison), Kadeem Weetom (Bronx), Marsha White (Yonkers), Gabriela Bukanowska (Port Chester), Kuang-Ying Chen (Pelham), Pablo Duran (Port Chester), Stefan Golubovic (Larchmont), K’nicia King (Rye), Sabrena Myers (Bronx), Rahul Panicker (Larchmont), Vineeth Panicker (Larchmont), Dennis Perusko (New Rochelle), Monique Thompson (Port Chester), and Chad Vickers (Bronx).
“Despite having been involved in graduations for over 60 years, I have never lost the thrill of seeing a new crop of young people going on to further education on the path to their life goals,” said Dr. Edward Pasciuti, an early supporter of the event who spearheaded the first fund-raising initiative in support of the Awards.
