Resurrection Middle School students recently enjoyed a fascinating hands-on science experience aboard the BioBus mobile science lab. Students were able to work side-by-side scientists to explore their environment using research-grade microscopes usually found only in top-tier laboratories. Experiments included using phase-contrast video microscopes to make movies of crawling amoebas, using a scanning electron microscope to see a fly eye, and visualizing glowing, streaming plant chloroplasts through a fluorescence microscope.
Launched in 2008, the bus is a refurbished partially solar- and biofuel-powered 1974 transit bus. Over 150,000 people at more than 500 schools and community events have been given the opportunity to explore their environment. The bus will make a second visit to Resurrection on May 27.
