April Crime Trends: Police Activity Mostly Unchanged, Leaf Blowers Remain Silenced

Most notably, leaf blowers summonses decreased by 100 percent, down to zero from 37, continuing a trend in 2026.

Police activity remained mostly unchanged across all categories this April compared to April 2025, according to data from the Rye City Police Department.

The only significant change was in leaf blowers summonses, which had a year-over-year decrease from 37 to zero, continuing a trend in 2026. Only two leaf blower summonses have been issued all year, in March, as landscapers and residents have begun complying with a year-round ban on gas-powered leaf blowers, according to former Lt. Michael Anfuso.

There were six arrests this April and in April 2025. Joise Cabral-Rosa, 30, was arrested on April 2 for allegedly stealing from her employer’s household while serving as their housekeeper.

Jan A. Sokolowski, 59, was arrested on April 20 for allegedly driving while intoxicated. This was the only DWI arrest in April and the first of 2026. He was due in Rye City Court on May 5.

Pursuits decreased from three to two this April, and city code complaints decreased from 15 to 11.

Service calls remained flat, decreasing by a mere 17, as did traffic stops, which increased by 14.
