The Rye softball team’s late-season surge came to an end Saturday in the section quarterfinals against Ardsley.

2024 all-state pitcher Sophia Haber held the Garnets to three hits and struck out 11 batters in seven innings to propel the Panthers to a 3-1 win. The junior captain only allowed one walk and one run, while also hitting a double at the plate.

Rye (8-12-1) won four of its final five games, including a 13-3 victory Thursday against Pleasantville in the playoff opener, to reach this point but was unable to upset second-seeded Ardsley (15-5).

Rye senior captain Ava Cross went 2-for-3 in her final high school game. Freshman Reese McGill drove in Clara Meszkat for the Garnets’ lone run. Sophomore Caroline Joyce and freshman Emma Stark also had hits for Rye.

Emma Philp drove in two runs with a home run for Ardsley, which has won seven straight games and will host either Hendrick Hudson or Nanuet in the section semifinals Tuesday.
