Author Kostya Kennedy

SPRYE and the Rye Free Reading Room welcome bestselling author and journalist Kostya Kennedy on June 12, 3 p.m. for an examination of the truth and legend of Paul Revere’s midnight ride. From diaries, archives, and letters, Kennedy reveals the story behind Paul Revere’s most famous ride, and the patriots and challenges that shaped a pivotal night in April 1775. Copies of “The Ride: Paul Revere and The Night That Saved America” will be available for purchase and signing. Historical-era refreshments will be served. A Path Through History — Square House Tours

Guided tours are available at the Rye Historical Society Square House Museum on June 14, 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Participants will walk the same halls where John and Sam Adams once walked, explore the rooms where George Washington stayed, and stand in the tavern where Marquis de Lafayette dined. They will learn about Dr. Ebenezer Haviland, a prominent figure in Rye’s history, and his role in organizing a significant meeting at the Square House Tavern on August 10, 1774, and Tamar Haviland, who managed the inn after her husband’s death and hosted George Washington.

Outdoor Education

Coyotes, Migrants, and Seining

Edith Read Wildlife Sanctuary has three educational programs coming up. The first is Coyote Creature Feature, on June 8, 2-3:30 p.m. This program explores the identification of coyotes and their hunting habits. On June 14, 10-11:30 a.m., bird lovers can bring binoculars and observe all types of birds, from late arrivals to summer campers to year-round residents at Migrant Leftovers. The first Seining by the Shoreline session of the season is June 21, 1-2:30 p.m. Participants use a 25-foot seining net to study and release creatures in the Long Island Sound. Dress to get wet. All programs meet at the Visitor Center.

Eggy with Reed Turchi

The next 107.1 THE PEAK summer concert at the Barley Beach House is June 6, 6:30 p.m. Eggy formed from a high school dream into a full-fledged reality. Aligning together in 2016, the lineup of Alex Bailey (drums, vocals), Jake Brownstein (guitar, vocals), Mike Goodman (bass, vocals) and Dani Battat (keys, vocals) has captured the ears of listeners across the U.S. and beyond. Concerts are outdoors on the beach and food and drinks are available for purchase.

Mitch Achiron Photography

From the moment Mitch Achiron saw a piece of paper go into the developer tray and come out as a photographic image, he was hooked. Mitch has logged more than 50 years behind both film and digital cameras and has shown his work in several group shows. The public is invited to attend an opening of Achiron’s images on June 12, 5:30 p.m. at the Serendipity Labs in Rye.

Hours each day are 5:30 -7:30 p.m., and the show will run through the end of August.

Wainwright Book Club

Wainwright will hold its next book club on June 12, 6:30 p.m. This month’s book is “Sandwich” by Catherine Newman, a funny, tender, and deeply relatable novel about a woman caught in the “sandwich generation” — caring for her aging parents while supporting her grown kids — all during one emotionally charged family vacation on Cape Cod. All are invited to join the Wainwright Book Club for engaging discussions, inspiring stories, and a welcoming community.

Cost: Free, $10 suggested donation

Adult Henna Workshop

This workshop is to be held at Rye Recreation’s Damiano Center on June 13, 6-7:30 p.m. Attendees will explore the origins of henna, its cultural and historical significance, and the diverse traditions surrounding its use in celebrations, rituals, and rites of passage across the globe. Participants will use henna cones to create henna patterns on cookies with frosting and select a design from a curated sheet to wear home. All supplies are provided for a creative and culturally enriching experience.

Cost: $35/resident, $50/non-resident

Rye Rocks Concert: Crossfire Hurricane

The Spring Rye Rocks Concert Series at Recreation Park Amphitheater has its next concert on June 13 at 6 p.m. The show is appropriate for all ages. Picnics are welcome and the Arthur Avenue Pizza truck will be on site for refreshments.

Dustin Lowman & Friends: Echoes of Dylan

On June 22, 4-6 p.m. at the Rye Recreation Amphitheatre, singer-songwriter Dustin Lowman & Friends bring the timeless poetry and restless spirit of Bob Dylan to life under the summer sky. A Brooklyn-based troubadour with a scholar’s devotion to Dylan’s vast songbook, Lowman has captivated audiences from Greenwich Village to Chicago, earning praise from folk legend Livingston Taylor as “the next real thing.” This concert is hosted by Rye Arts Center.

Cost: Free, $25 suggested donation to offset costs

Meet the Artist: Angélica Daas

On June 24, 7 p.m., Rye Free Reading Room will host a program with Angelica Daas, creator of Humanæ, a photographic project that invites viewers to recognize the similarity of humans regardless of individual differences. Daas leads a conversation about moving beyond white, red, black, or yellow skin colors to the beauty of human skin in every color. This event is part of a traveling Smithsonian exhibition, “The Bias Inside Us,” opening June 28 at the Rye Free Reading Room.

Father’s Day Picnic

Wainwright is hosting a Father’s Day Picnic on June 15, noon-3 p.m. This fun-filled afternoon at the Wainwright House features lawn games, a craft beer tasting, “Dad and Me” portraits, a BYO picnic, and more.
