The Unforgiving Yardstick: A Look at Women’s Roles and Struggles in Westchester County

The Rye Historical Society presents this powerful art exhibition by local artist, Fleur Spolidor. With additional support through a grant from ArtsWestchester and Ambassador John L. Loeb, this exhibit will open to the public on March 21 and run through March 27, 2026. Through a fusion of historical research and artistic interpretation, the exhibit sheds light on the lives, contributions, and challenges of women from Rye and the surrounding communities. The exhibit includes a series of portraits of women and complementary paintings and sculptures to reflect their struggles. Three garments, crafted entirely from measuring tapes, represent the societal constraints women have faced throughout history. These works explore the intersection of fashion, identity, and societal expectations.
