Paddle for the Sound

Save the Sound is hosting its 10th annual Paddle for the Sound from August 1-10. Paddle for the Sound celebrates the rivers, lakes, ocean, and all greenspaces that make the Long Island Sound region truly spectacular. This friendly kayak, SUP, and canoe competition and fundraiser helps to protect our region and build a world where everyone feels welcome and has access to enjoy this beautiful estuary. The Fascinating World of Chipmunks

This program at Edith Read Wildlife Sanctuary leads visitors through discussions of chipmunk survival in the wild. After learning about their biology, behavior and reproductive strategies, the group will then observe their behavior in the wild. This program is held on Aug. 3, 2-3:30 p.m., at the Visitor Center.

Peak 107.1 Summer Concerts

The next 107.1 THE PEAK summer concert at the Barley Beach House is Craig Finn and Kathleen Edwards on July 30, 7 p.m. Concerts are outdoors on the beach and food and drinks are available for purchase.

California Dreamin’

Rye Town Park’s free summer concerts are back every Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. under the pavilions rain or shine. The next concert in the lineup is Gary Adamson’s “California Dreamin’” on July 29. Lawn chairs, blankets, snacks, and dancing shoes encouraged.

Big Picture Foundation: Summer Open Mic Night

On July 31, 5-8 p.m., the Rye Arts Center will host the Big Picture Foundation’s Open Mic Night. Big Picture Foundation invites high schoolers to take the stage, performing their original works and uplifting the community with live music, poetry, comedy, and more. The event is held at Rye Recreation’s amphitheater and starts at 5 p.m. with bracelet-making, T-shirt tie-dye, and a DJ. Performances begin at 6:30 p.m. Visit ryeartscenter.org to learn more.

Golden Geese Band

The Osborn’s WellSpring Free Thursday Night Summer Concert Series presents the Golden Geese Band on July 31, 7-8 p.m. The Golden Geese Band brings the heart and soul of country music with a lively blend of classic hits, modern favorites, and toe-tapping originals. This concert will be held on The Osborn’s South Lawn and is free and open to the public. Non-Osborn residents should bring lawn chairs or blankets. Visit theosborn.org/events for more information.

Farmers’ Market

The Rye Farmers’ Market is open every Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The market, located in the parking lot off Theodore Fremd behind the Purchase Street stores, features local produce, meats, and other environmentally-conscious products.

Blindspot Discussion Groups/Author Talk

Rye Free Reading Room will host Dr. Mahzarin Banaji on July 30, 6:30-8 p.m. for a conversation about psychology behind the hidden biases we all carry from a lifetime of exposure to cultural attitudes about age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, social class, sexuality, disability status, and nationality. Copies are available to borrow from the library. This series is supported by local nonprofit CURE and the Rye Free Reading Room.

3rd Annual National Night Out

The City of Rye Police Department invites the public to celebrate National Night Out, a family-friendly community event on August 5, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Rye Recreation Park. Free activities include kids vs. cops tug-of-war and other games, goodie bags with Rye PD swag, and a chance to get up close to police equipment and a police car. Food will be available for purchase from Lat-u-sion (Peruvian Latin Fusion), Abeetz Pizza, and Crazy Taco-Mex food trucks, and ice cream from Longfords. National Night Out brings neighbors and law enforcement officers together to promote community and partnership.
