Outdoor Education

Plants and Trees of the Estuary

On May 28, 4-5:15 p.m., the Bird Homestead and Meeting House Conservancy on Milton Point will host the next session of Ford Winter’s Coastal Ecology. This session explores the plants and trees of the estuary ecosystem in the property’s backyard. This hands-on program is led by Douglas Carey, Educator and Board Member. The course is dedicated to the memory of Ford Winter.

Volunteer: Paint Outdoor Surfaces

Edith Read Wildlife Sanctuary is inviting volunteers to help them paint outdoor surfaces on May 31, 1-2:30 p.m. This work will help beautify the sanctuary for the summer months. Participants should bring gloves. Other tools will be provided. This program meets at the Visitor’s Center.

Form & Function

“Form & Function: Exploration of the 3D Realm” highlights artwork created by Rye High School students in 3D courses, featuring 3D sculpture and design, ceramics, advanced ceramics, and mixed media. This show is on exhibit in the Rye Arts Center’s main gallery until June 14.

Rye Rocks Concert: The Leftovers

The Spring Rye Rocks Concert Series at Recreation Park Amphitheater has its next concert on May 30 at 6 p.m. The show is appropriate for all ages. Picnics are welcome and the El Patio food truck will be on site for refreshments.

Rye Ballet Conservancy’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”

On May 31, at noon and 5 p.m., and June 1 at noon, Rye Ballet Conservancy will be presenting “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at the PepsiCo Theatre at SUNY Purchase. One section of the performance will feature live music performed by a Rye resident, and the cast includes dedicated young dancers, many of whom go on to collegiate and professional ballet careers. It’s a fully staged retelling of a timeless classic, and is a truly collaborative community performance. Tickets are available at https://www.ticketleap.events/tickets/ryeballet/midsummer

Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony

The City of Rye will carry on its tradition of honoring military personnel who died in service to their country on Memorial Day, May 26, 2025. The Rye American Legion Post Auxiliary organizes the parade down Purchase Street featuring Legionnaires, marching bands, cyclists, classic cars, Rye’s Boys and Girls Scouts, Rye school groups and local government officials. The parade begins at 9:30 a.m. at the train station and ends at City Hall. Immediately following the parade, the remembrance ceremony will take place on the Village Green outside City Hall. American Legion Post 128 Commander Fred de Barros will lead the ceremony. Mayor Josh Cohn, U.S. Congressman George Latimer, State Sen. Shelley Mayer and State Assemblyman Steve Otis are expected to offer welcoming remarks and greetings.

Hope Amid the College Admissions Storm

Westchester County families navigating the high-stakes world of college admissions are invited to an urgent and hopeful event at the Rye Free Reading Room on May 28 at 6:30 p.m., featuring nationally respected college admissions counselor Keith Berman of Options for College. Berman is a resident of Hastings-on-Hudson and a graduate of Irvington High School. In what has become the most competitive and costly college admissions season in U.S. history, Berman will address the intense pressure students and families are facing and offer a path through the chaos. His talk, titled “In Search of Sanity: How to Approach College Admissions in 2025,” aims to replace fear with clarity, while equipping attendees with real-world strategies that work. Pride Festival

The Town of Rye will host its fifth annual Pride celebration in Rye Town Park on May 31 at 3 p.m. The event begins with an art fair and Pride fair in the Rye Town Park Pavilions. The community is invited to explore the works of local artists and artisans and meet the many local organizations supporting this work. At 6 p.m., there will be a flag raising, a parade, and the pRYEde Community Group will unveil this year’s youth-led mural. The day wraps up with a party on the beach.

Vehicle Fair

The Rye Free Reading Room Vehicle Fair, started in 1998, is back for the 26th annual event. On June 1, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Village Green will host more than 300 families from Rye and neighboring towns for this family-fun event. The Vehicle Fair raises over $25,000 annually — every dollar supporting vital children’s programming, museum passes, the Summer Reading Program, STEM programming, and other community programs at the library. The Vehicle Fair offers a unique chance to explore exciting vehicles like fire trucks, police cars, and bulldozers. Kids (and adults!) can climb aboard, honk horns, and dream big. Keepers of the Labyrinth

On June 1, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Wainwright House is inviting community members to join for the launch of Keepers of the Labyrinth, a new affinity group dedicated to nurturing the sacred space of our beloved labyrinth through gardening, gathering, and quiet reflection. This will become a monthly gathering on the first Sunday of the month.

Farmer’s Market

Down to Earth Farmers Market in Rye is open for the season. The farmers market is held on Sundays from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot off Theodore Fremd, behind Purchase Street. The next farmer’s market is on May 25.
