Alana Jones, junior point guard on the Rye Country Day School Girls’ Basketball team, passed the 1,000th-point mark January 18 in an away-game at Hopkins.
A starter for the Wildcats since eighth grade, Jones said it was a relief. “All of my friends on other teams had already reached that mark and I put so much pressure on myself to achieve the milestone.” She added, “I wouldn’t have gotten here without my teammates and Coach Nails.”
Coach Scottie Nails in turn said, “Alana is the coach on the court, controlling the game on both ends. I have given her the keys to the car on the court, and she drives amazingly. It is very unusual for a point guard to score so many points, but Alana, who has now racked up 1,031 points, is truly exceptional.”
