Carolina Sculti won the gold medal in the Girls’ 14-15 year-old 1-meter diving event at the Junior Pan Am Championships October 9 in Matanzas, Cuba. Competing against divers from ten countries her score was 333.45.
“I didn’t miss anything. I was consistent and I felt good,” the Rye teen told USA Diving.
A member of the USA Junior National Squad and Future Olympic Force Team, Sculti represented Team USA at the Junior Pan Am Championships for the second time in her career. Besides winning the 1-meter, Sculti placed fourth on the 3-meter board, missing 3rd by a mere 2 points, and fifth in the platform. This is Sculti’s second gold medal; she won the platform in the 2011 Junior Pan Ams.
“We’re all very proud of Carolina,” said YMCA Marlins co-Coach Lindsay Iordache. “She’s been training hard and her efforts have really paid off.”
Sculti will compete with the Junior National Team in Montreal December 3-6, then will travel to Indianapolis before Christmas to take part in the 3-meter event at Senior Nationals, where she is looking to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Trials.
