The Aurora restaurant briefly caught fire causing a chaotic scene on Purchase Street Wednesday.

Firefighters arrived at the 60 Purchase Street business shortly after 4 p.m. after reports of smoke inside the restaurant. By that time, people inside both Aurora and the adjacent Royal Jewels of Rye were evacuated.

Fire crews located a fire on the roof near the building’s rear and removed sections of roofing materials to gain access to the blaze — before quickly putting it out, officials said.

The incident resulted in minimal damage to the building, according to the fire department. There were no injuries reported.

Rye police closed off the street, while Larchmont and Rye Brook FDs also assisted on the scene.

The Westchester County Cause and Origin Team was also on the scene to investigate the incident, which they determined was accidental. The blaze apparently originated when someone attempted to remove ice from the roof and gutter area of the building.

Purchase Street returned to normal around 5:30 p.m.
