At Sunday’s Section 1 Class B Championships at The Armory in NYC, Erin Ball quietly inserted herself into the conversation for consideration for the Rye High School Hall of Fame.
The senior won the high jump and finished second in the long jump, which made it a typical night at the track for the humble, standout athlete.
Ball’s accomplishments Sunday include:
– Breaking the all-time Rye high jump record (which she set last year) by 3 inches, with a jump of 5 feet, 5 inches
– Posting the highest jump in all of Section 1 (regardless of Class) for the 2025 indoor season
– Posting the second-highest jump in the state of New York for the 2025 indoor season
A gifted, natural athlete, Ball only started jumping in the winter of 2024. So versatile is Erin’s track repertoire – sprinting, jumping, great hand-eye coordination – that she may be a candidate for the women’s heptathlon in college. She has not made a decision about where she’ll study in the fall, but wherever she lands, she’ll be fun to watch.
Next up for Ball is the NY State qualifier meet, Feb. 23 at The Armory.
