Barbara Ann Moccia, Talented Choral Singer and Loving Mother, Dies at 92

Known as “Gram” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, the Rye resident had a deep love for music, animals, and especially her family.

Rye resident Barbara Ann Moccia, 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, May 17, 2025.

Barbara was born on October 3, 1932, in Columbus, Ohio, the second of three children to Albinus Carl Wick and Agnes Charlotte (Ackman) Wick. She graduated from St. Louis Park High School in St. Louis Park, Minn., and continued her studies at the University of Minnesota. Barbara was a registered X-ray technician and worked in the radiology field until starting a family.

Barbara married Anthony Moccia, Jr. at the Church of Saints Phillip and James in the Bronx, New York, in May of 1961. They were married for 32 years until Anthony’s passing in January 1994.

Barbara had a deep love of music and was a member of the Golden Apple Chorus, an a cappella barbershop chapter of Sweet Adelines International, for over 25 years. In addition to singing, she took pride in arranging music from other genres into the barbershop format. Barbara also loved animals and board games, was keenly interested in the latest technologies, politics, and personal finance, and rarely missed a game of her beloved New York Yankees. She was a woman of deep faith and a long-time active member of Village Lutheran Church in Bronxville, New York.

Those who knew Barbara will remember her for her main passion as a dedicated mother to her four children: Debra Marie Stromquist of Dallas, Texas; Carla Ann Moccia Paribello of Rye; Patricia Marie (Joseph) Hayde of Enterprise, Ala.; and John Paul Moccia of Port Chester, New York. She was also a grandmother to seven grandchildren: John Anthony (Sadie) Paribello, Paul Joseph (Paula) Paribello, Kelly Elizabeth (Noah) Skaar, Emily Nicole Moccia, Rebecca Lynn Moccia, Craig John Moccia, Caitlyn Renee Moccia, and a great-grandmother to Nora Skaar and Anthony Paribello. She was affectionately known as “Gram.”

A service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 24 at Village Lutheran Church, located at 172 White Plains Road, Bronxville, N.Y., 10708. Following the church service, a celebration of life gathering will be held at the church. Donations to Barbara’s favorite nonprofit organizations are gratefully accepted in lieu of flowers: Tunnels to Towers, Wounded Warriors, or Village Lutheran Church.
