When a wedding or special party rolls around or there’s a need to just look good, it’s nice to know that a professional makeup artist is right down the Boston Post Road. Dionne Bell of Belle Make-Up NYC has been in the business for seven years, and in addition to making house calls she works out of a studio at 124 Library Lane in Mamaroneck.
Bell, a New Rochelle resident, was recently named a 2015 WeddingWire Couples’ Choice Award Winner for makeup artistry in Westchester. WeddingWire is the leading wedding marketplace in the U.S and award winners are determined by reviews from newlyweds based on their experiences.
Growing up in the Bronx, Bell always had a passion for drawing and painting and found makeup artistry as a way to channel her talents. Despite her mother’s urging to become a nurse, she studied makeup artistry in the city, worked for Bobbi Brown and MAC, and has made models even more beautiful at Fashion Week.
Bell enjoys what she does. “I love working one-on-one with women. You feel you can empower them.”
Her first step with new clients is to listen to their direction. Overall, she favors a natural look. “You never want makeup to look like makeup. You want to look like yourself but polished.”
In addition to bridal makeup, Bell offers makeup services for proms, Bat Mitzvahs, bachelorette parties, and any special occasion. She also gives both private and group lessons, and offers makeup “wardrobing”: clients bring in all their products and Bell recommends what to toss and what to consider purchasing. She does not sell products, so there’s no pressure to buy. Spray tanning, semi-permanent eyelashes, and brow treatments are also available.
