Westchester for Change, a volunteer grassroots organization, is presenting a community forum entitled “The Affordable Care Act & You,” Tuesday, October 1, from 7-9 p.m. at the Greenburgh Town Hall, 177 Hillside Avenue, White Plains. This event is free and open to the public. This forum is especially timely because the New York State health care exchange enrollment period opens on October 1 for coverage that will begin on January 1. Find out what options are available for individuals who need health insurance here in New York State.
This event will answer these and other questions: How do I sign up for individual coverage? What benefits are covered? Will I be eligible for premium support or Medicaid? How does the health care law affect my Medicare?
Presenters include Timothy Foley, the Political Director for the Committee of Interns and Residents/SEIU, and Pat Esposito, Director of Westchester Seniors Speaking Out (WSOS), a program of the Medicare Rights Center. The moderator is Elizabeth Saenger, co-organizer of Westchester for Change.
“On October 1, many of our friends, neighbors, and maybe even our family members can find out if they’re eligible for free or lower-cost healthcare through the NY State of Health,” said Foley. “But polling shows that even those who will benefit the most may not realize they’re eligible. It’s up to all of us to ask questions, get the answers, and then either get covered ourselves or help spread the word.”
“Our greatest responsibility to our seniors is to help them understand their rights and benefits under Medicare and the Affordable Care Act so that they can become pro-active in managing their health care, said Esposito.
