Rye on a Sculpture High
It took a visionary sculptor and an extraordinary arts center to put together the feast of figurative forms currently on display along Purchase Street and at the Rye Arts Center.

The excitement began last month when fiery, translucent figures were installed on wooden poles downtown. They were the best ‘overture’ a show could have. When “Beyond Rodin: New Directions in Contemporary Figurative Sculpture” opened May 6 at the Rye Arts Center, expectations were high but the praise was over the moon. Art lovers and artists crowded the gallery and lingered outside with 20 museum-quality figurative works. Sculptor Bob Clyatt, who curated the show, cast a long and beautiful shadow. The exhibit and the public art display run through June 16.
