Lester’s, the current tenant of 1037 Boston Post Road, may have been the first to offer to buy the building from the City of Rye, but they’re not the last. According to Mayor Doug French, the City has received four “very competitive” bids since it decided to put the property up for sale.
In all, the City has received eight offers, and every one will be considered in Executive Session before the City Council meeting February 13, said Mayor French.
We asked the Mayor if any of the bidders was willing to continue the parking easement the City currently has with Lester’s — freeing up ten additional spaces on weekday mornings for City-permitted employees, which in turn opens up parking for library patrons.
He responded: “In the initial bid packet, we asked potential buyers to consider a parking easement provision.”
What Mayor French did say with confidence is that “a long public process led to our decision to put the property on the market. We looked at various alternatives and the best thing for the City to do was to put 1037 up for sale.”
At the February 27 Council meeting, Mayor French said he hopes to be able to provide an update on the bids and invite public comment.
