The Rye boys squash team is peaking at the right time, winning seven straight matches entering the postseason. The Garnets (10-3) now head to nationals, a three-day tournament from Friday to Sunday in Philadelphia.
Rye won its final regular-season match on Feb. 10, a 5-2 victory over Bronxville. The win gave the Garnets their first 10-win season in well over a decade and keeps them atop the FairWest League standings. The team will play for the FairWest Cup on Feb. 27 at Chelsea Piers.
Sophomore Charlie Rodilosso (No. 1), senior Andrew Chun (No. 2), and junior Philip Nemeth (No. 6) all won 3-0 sweeps against Bronxville, while junior Harry Ellis (No. 5) won his match 3-1.
The week before, on Feb. 7 against Darien, the Rye boys won a close 4-3 match to keep the win streak alive. The most compelling individual matchup was between the teams’ top players. Rodilosso lost the first game before winning each of the next three.
Chun, eighth-grader Nate Kim-Reuter (No. 3), and Ellis all won 3-0 to help Rye defeat Darien.
