More than 100 people gathered to support the Bread of Life pantry on Nov. 14 at Rye Presbyterian Church as the group held its annual benefit.
The Bread of Life, led by founders and Pastors Sherri and Pasquale Falco, delivers food daily to more than 14 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and low-income senior housing developments throughout Westchester. The team rescues nearly 63,000 pounds of food from area retailers each week.
The benefit was emceed by Rye resident Rammy Harwood, who said there are a growing number of people who rely on The Bread of Life’s donations. Local and national food insecurity, he said, is widespread.
Sue Wexler, the pantry’s director of Community Outreach, said, “The Bread of Life’s mission is based on sharing the love of God by loving one’s neighbor, not only by providing food for the food insecure, but also by making the food recipients, volunteers and everyone we work with feel loved.”
Wexler acknowledged the efforts of Pasquale Falco, who devotes seven days a week to rescuing and delivering food for the food recipients. “Pasquale models for each of us what loving well looks like,” she said.
Participants dined on food donated by local restaurants while a Rye “dad band,” featuring area musicians, provided the music. Wexler declined to say how much money was raised at the event, but said, “Every dollar we get goes toward feeding people.”
