Cardboard Regatta at the Rye Y
The Rye Y pool was the site of this year’s Cardboard Boat Regatta on March 28.
There were five heats before the exciting finals, with creative – and often courageous — participants setting sail in their homemade vessels.
Taking first place was William Apostolator, whose boat led the pack with speed and precision.
The Best Design Award went to Daniella Rende, who wore a witch’s hat aboard her SS Wicked.
Celebration of Color and Light at Library
Paintings by Susan Pascale will be displayed at the meeting room at The Rye Free Reading Room from April 6 to 27.
For the artist, color and light within nature has always had a healing, restorative, and transforming effect.
She said there is a universal divine energy in all forms of nature — the oceans, rivers, lakes, fields, forests, mountains and flowers —and she is drawn to their beauty, shapes, color, and light.
“When I paint, what’s inside of me comes out,” Pascale said. “An external sight catches my imagination, but the image that results is changed by an inner awareness.”
Pascale has shown her art through Westchester and Fairfield counties.
Rye Fund for Education Gala Raises $530K
The Rye Fund for Education raised more than $530,000 at its annual Spring Gala at the Westchester Country Club on April 3.
Some 300 people attended the gala, including parents, faculty, and students.
“We are so grateful to our community for their continued support,” said RFE President Ronda Gilroy. “The funds raised at our spring gala will help us continue to invest in the future of our students and ensure that they have the tools, resources, and opportunities to grow and succeed.”
In two years since its relaunch, RFE has raised over $1,000,000 in grants benefiting students, teachers, and staff.
