A Bronx man with a lengthy rap sheet was arrested for the eighth time Tuesday after police stopped him on I-95 in Rye and discovered he was driving with an allegedly stolen license plate, authorities said.
Roberto Robles, 26, was pulled over by Rye police after being alerted by the Westchester County Real Time Crime Center, whose surveillance cameras identified a stolen New York state license plate on the 2005 Honda Civic he was driving.
The county Crime Center alerted police when they saw the vehicle traveling northbound on Boston Post Road in the area of High Street. Rye officers initiated a traffic stop when the car was entering I-95 southbound and confirmed the allegedly stolen plate.
Robles’ run-ins with the law appear to have started in 2015 and led to numerous arrests in various communities across Westchester. He was taken into custody, at the age of 17, by Greenburgh police for a 2015 robbery in Hartsdale when he and an accomplice robbed a 20-year-old at knifepoint of his book bag and iPhone, according to The Journal News.
He was nabbed again in 2018 by state police for resisting a traffic stop while driving on I-95 in Mamaroneck. He led cops on a high-speed chase before crashing into a guardrail near the Fenimore Road exit, The Daily Voice reported. Robles was charged with resisting arrest, possessing illegal substances, and operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs.
He was also apprehended by the Elmsford, Harrison, and White Plains police departments in other arrests.
The Record reached out to the Westchester County District Attorney’s office to determine whether Robles had spent time in prison for his prior arrests and is awaiting a response.
This week, he was charged with possession of stolen property, driving with a suspended license and operating a vehicle without a required breathalyzer device, all misdemeanors.
He is due in Rye City Court on March 11.
