A 21-year-old from Long Island who police suspect stole a car and then came to Rye with illegal substances and trespassed on private property is due in Rye City Court on Nov. 19.
Police booked Allen Jose Corona, of Malverne, Long Island, on Nov. 4.
According to the investigation, the 21-year-old allegedly tried that day to enter a Loudon Woods residence around 2:40 p.m. Cops were able to extract an image of Corona using video surveillance, and located him after a group of women called in another report — this time of a suspicious vehicle in the area of North Street and The Ives around 6:30 p.m.
From that call, Rye police located Corona and the car, confirming the vehicle had been stolen in Malverne earlier that day. Police arrested the 21-year-old on the scene after he was found in possession of the stolen car keys as well as 50 pills in an unmarked package, a screwdriver, and a razor scraping tool.
He is charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, possession of burglary tools, and criminal trespassing in the third degree. Corona will also face charges from the Nassau County Police Department, where Malverne is located.
The Rye Police Department issued a residential burglary warning last month, sparked by the fourth break-in of the year. In that incident, which took place on Colby Avenue while residents weren’t home the last weekend in October, perpetrators stole jewelry from a home.
