There are many smiles on summer nights for Rye Recreation Adult Softball players. Each of the four leagues — Men’s A, B, and C, and Women’s — boasted six teams, which came out slugging.
In the A League, Poppy’s Cafe and Sam’s High Intensity tied for first, at 10-2. But in the final face-off, Poppy’s won two consecutive games for the championship, its third in a row. Rye Liquor finished second with an 8-5 record, followed by Uncle Henry’s, Tony’s Legacy, and Rollins.
Davy Byrnes led the B league with a comfortable 12-1 margin. The second-place Wranglers had an 8-5 season. The Roadhouse Regulars finished third, but they earned a place in the finals by beating the Wranglers in the playoffs. Davy Byrnes won the league championship, beating The Roadhouse Regulars 2-1. Kelly’s and UHG tied for fourth. Roadhouse II had a rough season, never winning a game.
In the C league, the RGB Hackers finished in first with a 10-3 record. Rye Ford Second Chance was a close second at 9-4. The Hammerheads came in third place with an 8-5 record, followed by MnM, Johnny’s Dodgers, and the Bears. The Hackers triumphed over Rye Ford’s Second Chance in the finals, 2-1.
In the Women’s League, Rye Brook dominated, and placed first in the league with a 12-1 record. But in the playoffs, they were knocked out by the Legal Eagles, the fourth-place team. The Legal Eagles, which have never won a championship, beat Frank’s Pizzeria in two straight games for the trophy. The BallBusters came in third; 97 Lake and the Ryots finished in fifth and sixth place, respectively. The Ryots tried to cause just that, but finished the season 0-13.
