Carole McCrea, a Rye resident for over 60 years, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2024, at the age of 89.
Born in South Bend, Indiana, on April 26, 1934, she was the daughter of Gerald and Eleanor Amerman.
After graduating from high school in Toronto, Canada, she attended Katherine Gibbs School in New York City, which equipped her with the skills that would serve her well in a long and dis- tinguished career as an executive secretary and administrative assistant.
She worked first at Vicks Chemical Company, followed by a 15-year tenure at the Rye YMCA, where she served as an administrative assistant. She then worked at Pechiney Corporation for a decade. After working as an executive assistant at the Howmet Corporation for eight years, Mrs. McCrea retired.
In addition to reading, she loved the challenge of completing the Sunday New York Times Crossword — in ink. Her home was graced by a beautiful garden, where she found solace and joy nurturing growth and life.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph McCrea, and her brother, Keith Amerman.
Her legacy is carried on by her children, Keith (Connie) McCrea, Kevin (Kim) McCrea, and Eileen (Anthony) Andreoli; and her cherished grandchildren, Cassidy McCrea, Michael McCrea, Amanda Andreoli, and Tracy Andreoli.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated April 5 at Church of the Resurrection.
Donations in Carole McCrea’s memory may be made to the Rye Association for the Handicapped or the Rye YMCA.
