Republican Rye Town Supervisor Joe Carvin dropped out of the race Friday to challenge New York’s Democratic U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand this fall.
Mr. Carvin, 57, made the announcement as Republicans gathered in Rochester to pick an officially designated U.S. Senate candidate. Carvin entered the race on Feb. 29.
The remaining contenders are Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos, New York City Attorney Wendy Long and U.S. Rep. Bob Turner.
A selection is expected by midnight Friday.
