With the effort the Rye boys showed in a 67-64 overtime loss Dec. 13 at Nanuet, first-year Head Coach Tom Proudian may have to think of something additional to ask for.
The first week of the 2024-25 basketball season was highly successful for the Rye High School girls team. The Garnets have played three games and won all three by double digits.
Rye may hold a record of 0-2-1, but back-and-forth games against perennial hockey postseason contenders bode well for the year ahead.
Not only was Brown on the field for the Garnets’ 4-2 Sectional title win over Somers on Nov. 2, she led the team through regional play, shutting out New Paltz 4-0 on Nov. 7 and whitewashing Chenango Valley 6-0 two days later.

The Garnets’ top finisher in the Dec. 6 meet was freshman Tino MacKinnon, who took second in the 1,600-meter race with a time of 4:42.26, just six seconds away from a first-place finish in his first indoor high school competition.
They won their first four-county Section 1 championship in seven years.
From November through March, children, teens, and adults parade into a Rye garage every Sunday to learn how to box.
The loss was a tough one to swallow for the Garnets, with the team holding a 14-7 lead at the half.
Rye High School held the first of three NLI signings for its Class of 2025 on Thursday night in the Rye Middle School Multipurpose Room.
