Rye Camera Shop’s focus is on any rush orders that cross its threshold. Whether it’s a custom enlargement or specialty sizing for lockets and frames, they’re ready. For those still working on a holiday card, but having trouble finding a photo where the whole family looks great, the shop will gladly work its holiday Photoshop magic. (For my Christmas card, they took a couple of heads from one photo and inserted them into another, making all seven of my crew glow.) With the help of free background remover, people can also make the best photo without using photoshop.
Also on hand at Rye Camera are “First Christmas” and other miniature holiday frames, which make lasting keepsakes and meaningful stocking stuffers. Another great idea are gift certificates for photography lessons or all kinds of video transfers that will put those beta max tapes of Christmas past to rest once and for all.
As for sweets, nothing holds a candle to Blue Tulip Chocolate’s homemade chocolates. Along with a white Christmas, chocolate lovers will be dreaming of the shop’s bounty of truffles: mint, pistachio, pecan butter, ginger, latte, hazelnut, and dulce de leche to name a few. The shop also creates over 25 types of bark, from pecan caramel to peanut butter and banana.
Edible and decadent gift sets — chocolate-covered pretzels dipped in toffee, crispies, and nonpareils, as well as chocolate-dipped Oreos, chocolate lipstick and shoes, and Santa and Christmas tree figurines — will sweeten any occasion.
For a little bling, head to Isabelle’s. The Blu collection offers 18-karat gold pieces with soft tones and modern designs. For fun and sporty, they carry Reflex watches at 50% off just in time for the holidays. Inspired by the slap bracelet that instantly coils around the wrist, these colorful LED bracelets marry fashion and technology.
At Shoes ‘N’ More, it’s all about keeping her warm this winter. Think UGG, and the more the merrier. Their signature sheepskin boots, slippers, and moccasins are available in many colors. Nothing is as high tech in shearling as UGG ear muffs with built-in speakers that are compatible with most audio and phone devices. Their gloves are designed to work with touch-screen devices.
Face the frosty months with their fashionable Sorel boots, Marmot quilted vests, Bula pom-pom winter beanies, and woolen mittens lined with fur. Visions of sugar plums will surely dance in the heads of the lucky recipients of their luxurious Mitchie rabbit fur hats.
For other indulgent presents, bask in the luxury of Walin and Wolff’s plush winter accessories. Glamourpuss rabbit and fox fur vests, hats, and ponchos, along with Linda Richards’ rabbit infinity scarves are downright sumptuous. How about a fur key chain for a stocking stuffer? Wow a certain someone with a pair of Aquazzura shoes, which garnered designer Edgardo Osorio a best designer of 2015 award.
The shop’s popular Gigi leather cases can be used as pouches or clutches, and a Gigi hobo bag in Italian shearling will take any wardrobe to new heights. The vivid Fairchild Baldwin beaded necklace with a leather magnet clasp is an original and comes in a vast selection of colors. As if that’s not enough for the fashionista, Walin and Wolff carries chic Chanel, Valentino, and “Celebrity Cocktails” coffee table books.
Nest Inspired Home, now entering its fifth year, continues to surprise us with ways to feather our homes. They just got in big buffet napkins that will fit just about any occasion and don’t need ironing. For the man of your dreams, consider the Bond desk lamp. Labrador lovers will never tire of one of Nest’s prints of a Lab and his ball.
You can always count on The Open House for an eclectic array of gifts for the home, especially at the most festive time of year. A set of three frosted glass trees will brighten up that table or mantle that needs a special touch. In a party mood? An aluminum elk-themed centerpiece bowl, when filled with your favorite bubbly, will wow your guests. Or, you can light things up with scented candles in decorative agate holders from Apothecary Guild.
For special gifts for the home, enjoy a shopping spree at the festooned Twish. Their elves are working overtime to personalize merchandise with custom monogramming, from acrylic serving trays, pitchers, and glasses to cozy fringed blankets or beach towels for holiday vacations. Whimsical cutting boards will cover everyone on your list – “keep calm and teach on” for teachers, “on a powder trip” for ski lovers, and “beach house” for seaside residents.
Very popular at the shop are personalized boxed nightlights for any room in the house. Garnet fever is big here, too, with napkins, boards, and chocolate chip cookie jars on display.
Novelty gifts items abound at Rye Beach Pharmacy. Our town’s Boston Post Road churches are represented in the shop’s Christmas ornaments, trivets depict Purchase Street in the winter, not to mention Rye dishtowels, mugs, and T-shirts. A new Rye throw says it all, and includes a donation to the annual Memorial Day Parade.
The pages of “Safari,” “Ocean,” and “Polar” Photicular books come alive with 3-D images. Light-up necklaces, gloves, and hats, as well as plush Jellycat stuffed animals, are sure to please.
Our longtime family pharmacy brings Christmas cheer with nutcrackers; Caspari dinner and cocktail napkins; deliciously fragrant Thymes, Lafco, and Frasier Fir candles and diffusers; beautiful lacquer trays; and embroidered holiday tea towels.
