The Rye City Council and Rye City School District are canceling their regular meetings this week, after more than 15 inches of snow blanketed Rye on Monday.

The board of education is rescheduling its Feb. 24 meeting to March 3. Similarly, the City Council is pushing back its Feb. 25 meeting to March 4.

Monday saw a record-high snowfall in the New York metro region, with between 11 and 24 inches recorded in Westchester County communities. Areas of black ice and general re-freeze are likely today, especially on untreated roads, according to the National Weather Service.

Officials instituted a non-essential vehicle travel ban during the blizzard – which was lifted at 6 p.m. Monday – however, Rye City schools, Rye Neck schools, and Rye Country Day School gave students another snow day Tuesday.

In addition to regular business, the agenda for the next city council meeting includes discussion on potentially allowing Rye Country Day to install seed libraries at Rye Recreation and the Square House.
