Retroactive to January 1, 2011, the new agreement provided no increase in salary until July 1, 2013, and a 2% increase thereafter. Employees’ contribution to health will remain capped at 4% of salary, and then the cap will increase to 5% of salary beginning July 1, 2013. The recession has taken its toll on the CSEA. When negotiations began in 2011, the union comprised 15 workers. Now there are nine members of the unit. The new agreement is considerably less generous than the preceding one.
Said Mayor Doug French, “This deal reflects our aim of holding the line on expenses.”
The City has yet to reach agreement on its three expired labor contracts: Police, Fire, and Department of Public Works. The Police and Fire agreements are subject to mandatory arbitration.
