The Rye Police Department’s Coffee with a Cop returns to downtown at The Snackery, offering residents a chance to engage with officers about policing and local issues.
The event will be held this Saturday, Jan. 25 at 64 Purchase St., from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“It’s great to give the community a place where they can come and talk to cops as normal people. Sometimes people just want to know what you’re like, other times people want to have specific questions they want to ask you about policing or about the community,” police Lt. Albert Hein said. “We are just giving them that platform where they can come by … and get to know us a little bit better.”
The police department has held the event since 2017 at various locations in Rye, including at Starbucks, The Granola Bar, and the farmer’s market. This is the first year they are holding the event at The Snackery.
The police reached out to Sara Leand, owner of The Snackery, to set up the event.
“We’re very friendly with the local police and firemen in town, and I’m really happy they asked if we could do one. I gladly obliged,” Leand said. “We’re huge supporters and we love to do community events.”
The bake shop will serve coffee and provide a space for open conversations and dialogue.
“Hopefully everybody will come in tomorrow and say hi, and we’ll see them as well, and it will be a great, hopefully very successful event,” Leand said.
