Seven people were taken to the hospital after a collision between a bus and a car on Interstate 95 over Labor Day weekend, the city said.
According to information from the Rye Fire Department, the driver of a Toyota 4-Runner collided with a Westchester County Bee-Line bus just passed Exit 19 on I-95 shortly after 10 p.m. on Aug. 30.
The Toyota driver was “placed in the care of EMS with a severe leg injury,” according to fire officials.
First responders evaluated additional bus passengers on the scene, however Westchester County Police was unable to provide updates on the conditions of the seven people transported to nearby hospitals.
Kieran O’Leary, Westchester County Police public information officer, told The Record that cops “generally” don’t follow up with hospitals after an accident unless a person’s injury is “potentially life threatening.”
City officials reported that multiple agencies responded to the crash at about 10 p.m. on Aug. 30 — including the Rye Fire Department, Port Chester-Rye-Rye Brook EMS, American Medical Response, Harrison EMS, Mamaroneck EMS, a Westchester County EMS coordinator, New York State Police, and Vincent Service Inc.
Photos from the city show the 4-Runner’s front end completely destroyed, as well as multiple emergency vehicles blocking all but one lane of traffic on I-95 after the wreck.
Firefighters cleared the scene of debris at around 12:30 a.m. the next morning.
