School of the Holy Child held its 104th Commencement Ceremony June 8.

School of the Holy Child held its 104th Commencement Ceremony June 8. Families, friends, trustees, Sisters of the Holy Child Jesus, faculty and staff joined together to celebrate the academic and personal achievements of the 59 graduating seniors.

In his first commencement ceremony, Head of School Dr. William Hambleton noted the importance of faith in transforming the world. “Your success in life will not necessarily be determined by the degrees on your wall, but by how firmly you have faith in your own self-worth and in the worth of others. And your ultimate happiness and lasting peace will not necessarily be determined by what you accomplish, but by how firmly you have faith in a loving God who challenges you to be a woman of conscience and action in an ambiguous world.”

This year’s featured guest speaker was Ellen Fahey-Smith, Assistant Vice President and Chief of Staff to the Provost at Fordham University, who applauded the class of 2014 for its unique and diverse talents and distinctive academic achievements.

“You have the ability to transform society,” Ms. Smith said. She reminded the graduates of the words of Holy Child’s foundress Cornelia Connelly: “Remember, it is not sufficient to have begun well, you must finish with resolution.”
