Playland Pool and Playland Beach in Rye will be open an extra hour during this week’s heat, Westchester County officials announced Monday.
As temperatures are expected to climb into the high 80s and low 90s this week, Playland Pool and Playland Beach will close at 7:30 p.m. today through Thursday, with the last entry at 7 p.m.
“The parks staff is focused on going the extra mile to ensure a positive experience throughout these warmer days,” said Westchester County Parks Commissioner Kathy O’Connor. “Their commitment helps residents relax and stay cool all season long, even during the hottest days.”
Playland is one of multiple county-operated beaches and pools extending hours this week. Others include Glen Island Beach in New Rochelle, Saxon Woods in White Plains, Sprain Ridge and The Brook at Tibbetts in Yonkers, and Willson’s Waves in Mt. Vernon.
The county also extended pool and beach hours during the last heatwave at the end of July, when the National Weather Service predicted temperatures would break 100 degrees.
“As we head into a stretch of hot weather this week, we want to be sure everyone in Westchester has a safe and welcoming place to cool off,” said Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins on Monday. “Extending pool and beach hours offers more time to find relief from the heat while enjoying more time in the water.”
