Rye and the surrounding Westchester County area is under a flood watch today and tomorrow.
With expected heavy rain starting again Tuesday night, the county’s Office of Emergency Services said residents should be take precautions, especially while driving.
“Rising and fast floodwaters can sweep vehicles away or cause you to lose control of a vehicle,” according to the county. “During a flood, water levels and rate at which the water is flowing can quickly change. Most flood fatalities occur in vehicles.”
In addition, floodwater can contain objects or contaminants that can be harmful – including live wires, chemicals, sewage and bacteria, and sharp objects and debris.
Thunderstorms are expected in Rye starting Tuesday night and lasting through Wednesday. The county’s flood advisory expires at 8 a.m. Wednesday.
